About Me

Hello people of the universe. I’m Maddy, and welcome to my blog!

General info about me: I’m an extremely nerdy 17 year old girl from Derby, UK. I’m a die hard Hufflepuff, (though to my disgust Pottermore said Gryffindor, and I haven’t been back since) and why yes, I’m an excellent finder. My dream job is to some day work in publishing, and be a part time author. (Actually, that’s not true. My dream job is to captain the USS Enterprise, but something tells me that’s not going to happen anytime soon.)

On this blog of Supreme Awesomeness, I shall review fiction and history books, and generally post about anything that floats into my hyperactive mind. Rest assured that my reviews will be flippant, hopefully amusing, and that I’ll find a whole bunch of things to criticise about everything I read – even if I love it. I  just love arguing, even with myself, but I never hate. Hating is bad, except when it’s on sparkling vampires.

Genre fiction is what I love best (whoop whoop) – by that I mean SciFi, Fantasy and Horror. Occasionally I stretch myself by reading adult novels… but generally I stick with the stuff aimed at 12 year old boys. Heh heh. OTT romance is not my thing, so there may not be a lot of YA paranormal stuff here… I tend to avoid it like the plague. I’m reviewing the odd history book too (reviews which will hopefully be more intelligent and analytical than the others) for university wider reading.

If I had to pick a favourite book of all time it would be The Little White Horse, by Elizabeth Goudge. It’s absolutely fantastic, beautifully magical. It also happens to be the favourite childhood book of one J K Rowling…

Some of the more major of my (many) obsessions include Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Star Wars, the Chronicles of Narnia, Supernatural, Star Trek, the Percy Jackson Series, and the TV show of The Vampire Diaries (or to be more specific, Damon Salvatore).

Oh, and if you don’t like pie…you’re dead to me. 😉

I hope you enjoy reading my rants and ravings!

So, I just left a massively long comment on your Divergent review. And I promise not to similarly bore you here. I just wanted to congratulate you on having such an awesome blog, and brilliant About Me section. I have a feeling I’ll be popping by here quite a bit, to read your book reviews, and to nab book recommendations from you.

I also wanted to chat with you about Pottermore, because I signed on to the sight just last week. (Screenname: Dawnmoonstone3543 . . . Why don’t they let you choose your own screenname on the site? So frustrating!) So, you are a Gryffindor, interesting . . . I guess in a way, they are kind of like a cross between Amity and Dauntless in Divergent world. 🙂 So, perhaps it fits you more than you think . . . in a good way, of course. Besides, if you do ever happen to log on, you will notice that the Gryffindors are currently kicking everyone’s ass, en route to the house cup.

That said, I can certainly understand the Identity Crisis that comes from being placed in an unexpected house. I was pretty certain I’d end up as a Ravenclaw. But the Sorting Hat put me in Slytherin. Go figure! I was shocked at first . . . but I’m getting adjusted to it . . . being evil, and all. It would certainly explain my attraction to bad boys. 🙂

Anywhoo, thanks for following my blog, and leading me to yours. I’m sure we will have plenty to discuss in the upcoming months! 🙂

I only just started keeping this as a regular blog so I’m thrilled you’re following me! 😀 😀 I’m going to try and post once a week at least.
As someone who really can’t navigate WordPress, is there a way of inboxing people? Or is it just a case of writing stuff all out here? 🙂

You know I can see you in Slytherin… I don’t know why, you seem quite a cunning sort of person, as much as this can be figured out over the internet. XD Yeah I was annoyed they don’t let you make up a name. When I’ve finished exams… I may go back on. Maybe. I guess Gryffindor are a bit like Amity and Dauntless, I didn’t look at it like that. I’ve got over the horror since November and am now on the ‘Possibly slightly proud of my Gryffindorness’ stage, but I’m never giving up my fluffy yellow roots, that’s for sure. 🙂

On a completely unrelated topic, but as someone I know who writes fanfic and has published their own stuff: what are your thoughts on 50 Shades of Grey? If you haven’t heard of it, please ignore the following nonsensical ramble. I bring this up because I just saw an interview in which the Smoulderhalder expressed interest in playing the lead in a movie of it. Then curiousity got the better of me and I managed to find a copy of the original unedited Twilight fiction online. Loads of people are angry that a piece of fanfiction has been published as a real book. (This of course lead on to all the authors who hate fanfiction, I think that’s depressing, if I ever publish, I’ll set up my own fanfic site for my fans). What do you reckon about it being published?

After reading a few chapters I can officially tell you that the writing is awful, which peeves me, because there are thousands of far better writers out there who would die to get a contract, yet poor things are published every day. Also, it’s not like Cassandra Clare, in the sense that it is a COMPLETE rip off. E L James hasn’t just lift the characters from her fanfic and replaced them into her own story like Clare did (if you’ve read Mortal Instruments, Jace and Clary are bang on Draco and Ginny in the Draco Trilogy) she literally went through and ‘found and replaced’ Edward and Bella for Christian and whoever. I’ve compared the versions they’re identical, the published version hasn’t even been edited for dodgy writing as far as I can tell. Anyway, I’m not sure what my opinion is on this, and I was wondering if you might have one. 😛 Sexyhalder in a BDSM film also sounds like there’s no way I’ll be allowed to watch it…. though after glancing at some parts of the book I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t want to! I’d like to preserve what little innocence I have left.

      Maddy 😀
